For Special Express, Express, and Rapid trains (numbered 1–199), how far in advance you can book on DTicket depends on what proportion of the total route you are travelling:
| Journey distance (% of total route) | Booking window |
|---|---|
| Less than 25% of the route | 1 day in advance |
| At least 25% of the route | Up to 30 days in advance |
| 60% or more of the route | Up to 90 days in advance |
Not sure what percentage your journey is? Use our Train Distance Calculator. Click any date on either calendar for more detail.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which trains does this apply to?
The advance booking windows apply to Special Express, Express, and Rapid trains numbered 1–199, bookable on the DTicket website. Ordinary, Commuter, and Local trains (numbered 200–499) can only be bought at the station, usually no more than one hour before departure.
How do I know which window applies to my journey?
It depends on what percentage of the total route you are travelling. Use our Train Distance Calculator to check, or simply try booking on DTicket — it only allows booking within the window that applies to your specific journey.
What time do tickets go on sale?
SRT typically releases tickets from around midnight Thai time (UTC+7) on the opening day. The DTicket system can be slow to update, so try again during the morning if tickets aren't showing. Popular routes like Bangkok–Chiang Mai sleepers sell out very quickly on their opening day.
Where do I buy the tickets?
Book online at DTicket (the official SRT booking site) or in person at any major SRT station. Some travellers use 12Go for easier foreign card support (booking fee applies). See our full guide on buying tickets.
Can I change my ticket if my plans change?
DTicket tickets can be postponed with a fee (20–50% depending on how far in advance), with unlimited postponements. Cancellations incur a 70% fee (you receive 30% back), and must be made at least 3 hours before departure. See our buying tickets page for full details.
